Recommendations for
Safe Handling of ExxonMobil Chemical
Drycleaning Fluid 2000 (DF-2000 Fluid)
These recommendations are intended to assist in safely handling DF-2000™
Fluid to maintain the integrity of your drycleaning operation.
General Safety Aspects
- Smoking must not be permitted in the drycleaning room per NFPA
32.
- Install accessible, and an adequate number of, portable fire extinguishers
in the plant areas where the drycleaning machines and solvent
storage are located per NFPA 32.
- Keep a copy of the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) on hand;
make sure that all employees are familiar with it and follow its
recommendations.
- Ensure that drycleaning equipment is designed for hydrocarbon
solvents.
- Ensure that the building that houses the drycleaning
equipment (or machinery)
complies with local building codes, NFPA guidelines, and is approved
by the local "Authority Having Jurisdiction".
Solvent Storage and Handling
- Proper personal protective equipment should be worn when handling
DF-2000 Fluid. See MSDS.
- Solvent tanks or drums should not be located near heat sources
or sources of ignition.
- When handling the solvent, ensure no sources of ignition, such
as lit cigarettes or hot irons, are present.
- Properly ground or bond the receiving and discharging containers
when transferring solvent.
- Properly dispose of solvent waste; consult appropriate regulatory
authority and certified waste hauler.
- Properly ventilate areas where the solvent is stored or used
to prevent collection of heavy solvent vapors.
Empty Drums
- Empty drums should not be stored near heat sources or sources
of ignition.
- Do not leave empty or partially full drums open. Replace and
tighten the bung on the drum.
- Consult appropriate regulatory authority on disposal of empty
drums.
- Do not cut, drill, weld, or clean an empty container.
First Aid
The MSDS provided by your solvent supplier contains first aid
treatment information. The MSDS also lists a phone number for
additional medical treatment information.
